Upgrade Hell
-
I have been trying to upgrade the sodaq NBIOT board for a few times now with no success.
I don’t know anyone with a windows computer any more so I am having to use Windows 7 in a VirtualBox environment.
I put the serial passthrough sketch and the ublox software says it has updated the security image A but then it just fails.
I would appreciate any help or if there is somewhere I can visit in Amsterdam where there is a windows computer I could also do that if it is my virtual environment that is the problem.

Hi Jonathan.
Are you using the UEUpdater?
What firmware version are you trying to update to?
What modem are you using? -
@jonathan-carter Hi, this is known (timing) problem. The UEupdater very much relies on the timing of the PC’s serial port driver. E.g. in our case, corporate laptops often have shown serious problems, and I can imagine that virtualbox systems also have similar problems. In my case using a ‘family’ laptop solved the issue. It should be able to find someone with a regular family laptop in A’dam I hope, or are they all on Apple machines?

@felixdonkers ok , that is good to know . well I have not seen any non apple users for many years now , but saying that I am sure if I sniff around I can find someone with a pc laptop. Do you know if the UEUpdater can run on an old version because I am pretty sure I have a winxp machine somewhere?
As long as I know there is a reasonable chance of success I don’t mind sniffing one out .
thanks again for the help

@jonathan-carter no experience with XP but it’s worth a try. Otherwise I suggest to go to one of the upcoming TMNL installfests. I’m sure there are people willing to help there.

ALL – it is solved with an old DELL I found in a drawer , thanks for all your help,
for the future it would be way better if we can get a virtualbox image able to do this.

@jonathan-carter Or buy a good windows pc

@andre-rodenburg haha , yes I could do , but that makes the cost of the nbiot board pretty high
